Alexander (Sandy) Leckie
Sandy’s first career was as a training and development manager in a multi-national corporation.  In 1994, feeling the need for a change of direction, he harnessed a life-long passion for wine to launch a second career as a wine educator.

The wine school, which Sandy now manages with fellow AWE members, Lena Inger and Vivienne Franks, is one of the biggest of its kind in the country.  Trading as the Wine Education Service Limited, it runs a wide range of courses and events for wine and spirit lovers.  Courses are designed to suit all levels of knowledge and are delivered in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There are six venues in London and regional centers in Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Brighton and Manchester.  In addition, there are wine workshops, tutored wine tasting, wine tours and wine holidays.

The Wine Education Service can tailor-make any event for a client.
In his own capacity, Sandy tutors wine and whisky tasting for private clients and wine clubs.  Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Scottish Malt Whisky are some of his specialties.
He is an experienced wine tour guide.  He is a judge at the International Wine Challenge.  He also runs the tasting programme for l’Institut Français du Royaume-Uni.

Sandy is a member of the Circle of Wine Writers and Association of Wine Educators.  He is also accredited as an international wine educator by the Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux and the Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne.
Malcolm Franks of Wine Voyages Malcolm Franks
Malcolm’s original background was in Chemistry and following an early switch into Technical then General Management he climbed to the role of a UK Board Member for a large Swiss Multinational Corporation. Here his role encompassed business development, Mergers and Acquisitions and eventually he became Company Secretary for the UK Group.

With strong analytical and accounting skills the Company enjoyed a period of strong growth but as time progressed it became clear that a further challenge was required that did not involve working for others in such a global environment. Malcolm’s wife, Vivienne Franks, had by then been working with Sandy Leckie who owned the Wine Education Service, one of the largest providers of wine courses, tastings and events.
Malcolm had a long standing enthusiasm for wine and it was a natural progression to join forces with Sandy Leckie to strengthen the management of the Wine Education Service where his previous wide commercial experience has been put to great use to expand the offering.

Malcolm together with his wife Vivienne has visited most of the wine growing regions of the world, particularly in the Southern Hemisphere and has assisted in the running of tours in the past with great enthusiasm and panache.

Christos Ioannou
Christos has been organising and leading wine tours for several years to many different wine regions of the world, including Champagne, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Languedoc, Greece and South Africa. Christos’ tours are well known for their quality and value and he has a loyal following and many repeat customers for his tours. Christos has built up contacts with boutique wine producers all over the world and through his extensive Trade contacts can arrange visits to estates which are not normally open to the public.
A Bordeaux tasting by Freddy Price at Reading University Wine Society first sparked Christos’ interest in wine. This interest gradually turned into a passion, and after a 20 year detour into marine insurance, Christos realized that at least half a career spent doing something that he really enjoyed was better than nothing!

In 2002 Christos completed his Wine Diploma and became a Judge at the International Wine Challenge. Since then he has become a member of the Association of Wine Educators and of the Circle of Wine Writers, a WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) Recommended Tutor and an Approved Bordeaux Tutor. Christos teaches wine courses for a consumer wine school, the Wine Education Service, and also teaches their whisky course (single malt Scotch being his favourite after-dinner drink!).

In 2004 Christos set up a company, Criterion Wine, to organize wine events for corporate customers, wine groups and social clubs. He sells a local importer's wines to his own corporate and private customers. For further details see www.criterionwine.com

Christos has been to nearly all of France’s wine regions, as well as to many other wine producing countries of the world including Italy, Spain, Hungary, Portugal, Greece, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, California, Virginia and Lebanon. He has also travelled to many other far flung parts of the globe, but has still to visit Antarctica. He would like to do a bungy jump on all five continents, and currently has one to go!

If asked to name his favourite tipple, Christos would have to say Red Bordeaux, though he is never averse to a glass of good champagne!
